Our Tiny NYC Apartment Bathroom

It’s been a while since I posted much about our shoebox, err I mean, our apartment! Lol… But for reals we live in a very tiny space and have had to get very creative about organization! So today I want to talk about our bathroom - how we have maximized storage and how I’ve tried to decorate it a little.

First off, you’ll notice our bathroom layout is a little odd. The mirrors are not above the sink. One is a medicine cabinet above the toilet and the other is a long mirror running parallel to the bath tub. The bathroom sink cabinet kind of floats above the ground resulting in very limited storage. Plus there’s the radiator that protrudes from the one place that would make the most sense for any sort of organization. But we have a bathroom and we have made it work with the help of some perfectly small items!

Darrell likes to keep all of his items within reach but off the counter so he uses this little shelf that conveniently holds his towel, too. With only one electric outlet, we’ve enlisted the help of this surge protector! You may think we’re crazy but we have Alexa in the bathroom. I seriously love it! You can ask her the weather, have her tell you the news, play your favorite music, have her remind you about certain tasks later in the day, put shampoo on your shopping list and more, all while getting ready for the day! Although not pictured, I use this makeup organizer to store most of my small everyday items within reach. Our sink cabinet storage isn’t really magical and therefore I didn’t take a picture, but we used a few small bins to keep things organized. I have a bin for my hair dryer, flat iron and curling irons and then the rest of my hair/beauty products are stored in the drawers of the narrow white shelf by the door.

One of the other items that took us forever to find, was the narrow hamper on wheels! First of all, it’s crazy that is the only spot we could fit any sort of hamper in the apartment, but second wow it is hard to find something to fit those dimensions! There are plenty of small hampers out there but we were trying to find one that would use the maximum amount of space possible (and was reasonably priced). This hamper won and it has been great! Its wheels definitely helps on laundry day when we take everything down to our building’s basement.

When Darrell moved in, the apartment didn’t have a toilet paper holder and we realized we had limited space to store items like extra toilet paper and feminine products. So we found this very narrow set of drawers to fit beside the toilet and this toilet paper holder.

I’ve found the space-saving way to store my washcloths and hair towels (the white towels) is to roll them. We stack the blue towels (body bath towels) on top of the shelf. It’s not ideal on laundry day when every blue towel we own is stacked up but it’s a minor inconvenience. The little basket for the washcloths is from Target.

Our shower curtain was purchased off our wedding registry and it is no longer available, but I’ve linked some similar shower curtains from Target at a couple different price points in the Shop This Post section of today’s post! Our bath mat is also from Target!

Speaking of the shower, when Darrell moved in he swapped out the basic shower head for one that makes Penny’s bath time much easier! It is linked in the Shop This Post section. Due to the tile in the shower, it was also difficult to find any sort of shower organizer for our products but he found this great tension rod shelf that was actually long enough to work with the super high ceilings! (I do like the ceilings in this apartment though because it definitely helps make these small rooms feel bigger!)

I’ve also linked below items like our curved shower curtain rod (great for making narrow bath tub showers feel less cramped) which D installed after moving in and the trash can!

Andddd the beautiful blue and white porcelain was such a steal!! A fabulous Walmart.com find for less than $30!! I use it to store Q-tips lol! It just brings me so much joy!
