Ever get an idea in your head for a craft project and then put it off forever or start it and then life gets in the way? That’s basically what happened to me when trying to monogram this sweatshirt! I started the design around the first week of October when some family came to visit and then it sat in the office for weeks. I’m boxing up our fall decor as I write this (literally) and we are about to deck the halls for baby Jesus tonight… so talk about last minute, but I really wanted to crank out this adorable pumpkin monogram to wear today so by golly I was up and at it this morning! Cricuting, heat press going and all!! And yes, I called my mother (AKA the Cricuting queen) before 9 AM to enlist her expertise. 🤣🎃
Earlier this year, I started seeing adorable embroidered quarter zips with a similar design, all over the internet. Everywhere I turned (or is it surfed?) I spotted something along the same lines. And while I love almost anything embroidered, I thought this would be a fun project for the heat press I was recently given (a hand me down… it works just fine but is a little odd to operate).
This is only the third thing I’ve attempted to make using the heat press (items #1 and #2 were shirts for my MIL and BIL). So I’m not really in a position to tell you how to use it, plus I’m gonna assume if you’re someone interested in a heat press for Cricut projects you’re likely eyeing the actual Cricut brand heat press instead… But anyway, maybe at a later date if there is enough interest I will put together some sort of tutorial.
For now, I want to share where I found the pumpkin and monogram designs!
Where to Find a Free Circle Monogram Font
The circle monogram is a font I downloaded from Dafont.com. You can find the exact font I used here. I used the slicing tool and the shape tools to slice apart multiple monograms and reassemble one that incorporated each letter I needed.
Where to Find a Free Pumpkin Stem Design for a Circle Monogram
There are lots of pumpkin stem design options or pumpkin options in general for Cricut and the one I first found cost about $3 and I really liked it but was hoping to find a free option so I kept looking and actually came across some free download options (when you subscribe to their emails/make an account) and decided to take that route.
I used a design from DesignBundles.net. I took the stem and curls from Pumpkin Monogram 4 (if you’re looking at the graphic on the link, it’s not numbered in the same order as the files, so it’s the top middle design). I used the slicing and shape tools again to slice the curls apart from the stem in order to reassemble them as one piece instead of three (eliminating the space and turning the curls a bit). This might seem a little extra but it makes it look much cleaner and simpler atop the circle monogram so I think it makes a difference! You can find the design bundle here.
Note: Always be careful about downloading free files, if something seems off, find another site.
Affordable Sweatshirts for Craft Projects
I found this sweatshirt on Amazon after checking multiple stores and not finding exactly what I was looking for. This is the Hanes Men's Ecosmart Fleece Sweatshirt in size medium and color Ash. I like that this isn’t white or gray but instead a brighter heather gray color. This sweatshirt is 50% cotton and 50% polyester. There are several color options and the price varies based on color. Mine cost around $13. It’s perfect in that comfy cozy oversized way!
Reminder When Cricuting Shirt Designs
Always be sure to mirror / flip your designs and cut the vinyl with the shiny side down! :)
Happy Halloween! I hope you and your loved ones have a fun night / weekend!
