Walmart Favorites I Missed While Living in NYC

Friday Favorites

August 2020

Kind of a weird topic for this month’s Friday Favorites post, but while grocery shopping in our new town, I realized how much I missed about Walmart while living in NYC! Lol - it’s true!! There were a few things in particular that while maybe available in NYC, we struggled to find them, so needless to say, Walmart brings me so much joy these days!!

I was able to purchase non-food items or some larger quantities of non-perishable foods from Walmart.com just like any other normal online Walmart purchase but there were a few things we never quite found replacements for so for anyone curious, here are the 4 items I missed! Hahaha ;)

  1. Blue Ribbon Classics Fudge Bars - The besttt low-calorie, full-deliciousness, ice cream indulgence. According to the box, a serving is two bars. I feel like one is plenty and just one bar is only 85 calories! And did I mention you can get a box of TWENTY for under $5?? Try getting anything for $5 in NYC… lol!

  2. Laughing Cow Garlic & Herb Spreadable Cheese Wedges - Try to convince me there’s a better flavor because you can’t. This is the best flavor. Apparently the largest city in the nation didn’t get the memo! You could only find 2 maybe 3 flavors of Laughing Cow Spreadable Cheese Wedges in NYC and Garlic & Herb wasn’t one of them.

  3. Frosty Paws - Okay technically this is Penny’s favorite, but she really did miss them. Part of me thinks we actually did find these some where in the city but they were way overpriced. But that’s how I came across a recipe for homemade puppy ice cream - which Penny also loves! She enjoys both the original and peanut butter flavors of Frosty Paws!

  4. Swanson Vegetable Broth - Hard to find in Manhattan unless you’re buying it in small cans and I think in bulk… which really throws off the measurements and just annoys me. The 32oz Swanson Vegetable Broth is my preferred choice of broth for cooking risotto. Sometimes I also use the beef broth (chicken is a no-go due to my husband’s poultry allergy). But we tried SEVERAL different brands of vegetable broth in NYC and they were all terrible in comparison to Swanson!

If I really thought long and hard, there are probably other items, but these are the distinct items I missed the most! Not to mention, just all of the other wonderful items you can find in a physical Walmart store (at way better prices than anything you’d see in Manhattan!!)

Walmart tends to get a lot of hate but I’m certain we all have our favorites from the retail giant. What are some of your favorite items - food or otherwise - from Walmart?
